CAPACITY-BUILDING TRAINING FOR PRISONERS AT ARTIK CEI OF MOJ, REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
The series of capacity-building training sessions for prisoners kept in the criminal executive institutions (CEI) of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, were launched on September 15, 2023, within the framework of HIV Prevention Program implemented by New Generation Humanitarian NGO (NG NGO).
The goal of the training sessions is to build the capacities and develop leadership among prisoners kept in CEIs of Armenia through informational-educational meetings and sessions on HIV, tuberculosis, methadone maintenance treatment, and the right to health, as well as to provide them with information-education and prevention materials.
The first training was held on September 15, 2023 at Artik CEI of MOJ of the Republic of Armenia.
The training started with introduction of the topic of HIV and AIDS, Hepatites Prevention among Prisoners. Vardan Arzakanyan, Head of the Department of Epidemiological Control and Consultation of the National Center for Infectious Diseases CJSC of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, presented the topic.
Next, Anik Ulumyan, head of the children’s department of the National Pulmonology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, doctor-physician/pediatrician, introduced the topic of Tuberculosis Prevention among Prisoners.
The training last topic – the Right to Health was presented by NG NGO legal expert, defense-lawyer Anahit Mkrtchyan.
At the end of the training the participants were awarded with certificates, as well as had opportunities for consultation both with the doctors and the defense-lawyer.
The training sessions are implemented within the framework of HIV Prevention Program implemented by New Generation Humanitarian NGO with financial support of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia and the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, in cooperation with the National Center for Infectious Diseases, CJSC of the MOH, Republic of Armenia.
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia and the National Pulmonology Center CJSC of the Republic of Armenia have also supported the implementation of the training sessions.
