Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause disease in both humans and animals. In humans, the virus is primarily transmitted from symptomatic people to others who are in close contact through respiratory droplets, by direct contact with infected persons, or by touching contaminated objects and surfaces (for example, door handle or table) then by touching the mouth, eyes, or face with the hand. The new type of coronavirus (COVID-19) was found in 2019 and has not been previously found in humans.

The coronavirus disease can be both mild (acute respiratory infection, flu) and severe, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). The main symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, weakness, and difficulty breathing, but there are other symptoms as well. The world’s best research institutions are now focused on finding a vaccine for the coronavirus to prevent/treat the patients. The vaccine is still under development. The incubation period of the virus is 1-14 days. The vast majority of infected people (about 80%) recover from the disease without the need for special treatment. One in six people infected with COVID-19 in the world develops complications and difficulty breathing. There are a lot of cases when people were infected, but they did not develop any symptoms, those cases can be found in Armenia as well.
