The meeting brought together Mr. Bruno Montariol, International Aid/Cooperation Officer, EU Delegation to Armenia, Mr. Tomasz Ostropolski, the EU Delegation’s human rights focal point, and Mr. Sergey Gabrielyan, NGNGO President, Ms. Alina Mirzoyan, Human Rights and Advocacy Coordinator and Mr. Arman Sahakyan, NGNGO Faith and Equality Coordinator. The meeting provided a platform for NGNGO to present its key accomplishments from 2024, focusing on efforts to protect human rights, ensure equitable healthcare access, and empower marginalized communities. These achievements underscored the organization’s commitment to fostering an inclusive society in Armenia.
Additionally, NGNGO shared its insights on the current challenges and gaps in addressing discrimination, healthcare disparities, and social vulnerabilities. Discussions also revolved around identifying opportunities for collaboration with the EU Delegation to enhance impact and drive sustainable change in these areas.
As part of the preparations for the upcoming EU-Armenia Human Rights Dialogue, NGNGO presented the human rights situation of vulnerable groups in Armenia, in particular the LGBTQI+ people, highlighting critical issues such as the lack of anti-discrimination policies ensuring protection from discrimination on the basis of SOGIESC, barriers to capacity building, leadership empowerment, social support, awareness raising and other types of initiatives for marginalized groups, as well as the need for comprehensive legislative reforms to protect the LGBTIQ+ community in Armenia.
This meeting reinforced the shared commitment of NGNGO and the EU Delegation to address pressing human rights issues in Armenia. The dialogue opened avenues for enhanced cooperation and underscored the importance of aligning efforts to build a more inclusive and equitable society.
NGNGO expresses its gratitude to the EU Delegation for their time, support, and dedication to advancing human rights in Armenia. With renewed optimism for 2025, NGNGO looks forward to translating these discussions into actionable outcomes that benefit the most vulnerable members of society ensuring their human rights protection and equal opportunities.
