CAPACITY-BUILDING TRAINING FOR PRISONERS AT SEVAN CEI OF MOJ, REPUBLIC OF ARMENIA
On September 11, 2024, the series of capacity building training sessions and information meetings for inmates of criminal exexutive institutions of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia was resumed within the framework of HIV prevention program implemented by New Generation Humanitarian NGO (NGNGO).
The goal of the trainings is to build the capacities and leadership skills of people kept in Armenian criminal executive institutions through informational educational meetings on HIV and AIDS, hepatites, tuberculosis, methadone maintenance treatment and the right to health, as well as to provide them with educational information and prevention materials.
The first training was held at Sevan Criminal Executive Institution of Ministry of justice of the Republic of Armenia, during which the following topics were presented:
- HIV and AIDS: Routes of transmission, prevention and ARV treatment;
- Tuberculosis: Prevention of TB among people kept in CEIs;
- Methadone Maintenance Treatment;
- Right to Health.
The topics were presented by the experts of the National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID), National Center for Pulmonology (NCP), National Center for Addictions Treatment of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia (NCAT) and New Generation Humanitarian NGO, i.e.
- Christine Lalayan – NCID medical epidemiologist;
- Lyubov Nikolayan – NCP head of the children’s department, physician/pediatrician;
- Anna Asatryan – NCAT head of the maintenance treatment service;
- Shushan Khnkoyan – NGNGO lawyer.
As a result of the training, people kept in Sevan criminal executive institution of Ministry of justice of the Republic of Armenia built their capacities and raised their awareness about HIV and AIDS, hepatites, tuberculosis, methadone maintenance treatment and the right to health, as well as received educational informational and preventive materials.
At the end of the training session the participants were awarded with certificates, and they also had the opportunity for individual consultations both with the doctors and the lawyer.
The training sessions were organized within the HIV Prevention program implemented by New Generation Humanitarian NGO with financial support of the Ministry of Health from the funds of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, in cooperation with the National Center for Infectious Diseases CJSC.
The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, the Criminal Executive Service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, the National Center for Pulmonology SNCO of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia and the National Center for Addictions Treatment CJSC of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia also contributed to the implementation of the training sessions.
