Case of Discrimination and Eviction Based on Sexual Orientation
On May 7, 2025, A.A. contacted New Generation Humanitarian NGO (NGNGO). A.A. reported that in March–April 2025, they had been renting a room in a hostel in Yerevan. On May 5, during a phone call with their partner who was abroad, the hostel manager overheard the conversation and, upon realizing that A.A. was gay, entered the room and forcibly evicted them. The manager used discriminatory and offensive language, stating specifically that they would “not give a place to a f*ggot.”
When A.A. attempted to collect their personal belongings, the manager barred them from re-entering the hostel. Since A.A. had valuable items left in the room, they immediately contacted the police the same day. However, the officers at the duty station, upon learning the reason for the eviction, told A.A. that the matter could only be addressed the next day during working hours.
The following day, May 7, A.A. approached NGNGO. With the organization’s support, a formal written complaint was prepared for submission to the competent authorities.
NGNGO emphasizes that an individual’s sexual orientation cannot be grounds for restricting their rights. Such actions violate rights guaranteed under the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and contradict international human rights standards.
