HIV POSITIVE PERSON WAS ASKED TO GET OFF FROM MILITARY COMMISSARIAT TO KEEP OTHER PEOPLE FROM BEING INFECTED

On January 16, 2024, A.A. (the name has been changed), the beneficiary of the NGO, applied to the “New Generation” Humanitarian NGO (NSH). The latter said that in December 2023, due to his HIV-positive status, he was released from mandatory military service. The military commissariat of the latter informed that the military booklet will be ready at the end of the given month, and as soon as it is ready, they will inform him.

Due to the lack of information within the specified period, A.A. visited the military commissariat at the beginning of January 2024, where they insulted him, saying that it is not desirable for the “spidovkek” to go there constantly, when the brochure is ready, they will be called. AA demanded from the latter to speak with him respectfully and clarified that he should have had his weapon book ready long ago and they were quite late. AA had to leave.

“New Generation” Humanitarian NGO provided the person with legal advice, the lawyer contacted the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia to clarify the issues related to the person’s military book. The ministry informed that the booklet has been ready for a long time, and the person can approach his military commissariat and take it.

On January 17, 2024, A.A. again visited the military commissariat. He was directed to the chief, who rudely threw AA’s documents on the table, and told him to take them and leave as soon as he did not infect everyone.

The person did not want to take any action regarding the discriminatory manifestations that took place, because he was afraid of revealing information about his health condition, which might lead to repeated discrimination.
