MEDICAL FACILITY REFUSED TO PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE TO A PERSON AFTER LEARNING OF HIS HIV POSITIVE STATUS.

On March 1, 2024, A.V. (name changed) applied to New Generation Humanitarian NGO. On the same day, the beneficiary had visited one of the medical facilities located in the Kentron administrative district of Yerevan city for a medical examination. Based on the health issues that A.V. had, they suggested him a surgery so that the problem did not get more complicated. A.V. agreed and made all arrangements with the doctor for the surgery. Then the person informed the doctor about his HIV positive status. After learning about it, the doctor interrupted the conversation offering him to continue the conversation in the evening. Thus, in the evening, the doctor called A.V. and informed that he could not do the surgery as they do not provide services to “such people” in their medical institution, after which he informed that he could refer A.V. to another medical institution where they could do the surgery however the medical expenses were more expensive there, about five times more than in their medical facility.

Legal advice was provided to A.V. The case is in progress.
