Training in Gyumri for representatives of state employment agency and territorial employment centers

On May 10, 2017, “New Generation” Humanitarian NGO launched the ″Prohibition of discrimination for a democratic society″ training course in Gyumri for 11 representatives of the state employment agency and Arabkir, Shengavit, Erebuni, Malatia-Sebastia, Artashat, Hrazdan, Ashtarak, Gyumri, Armavir and Gavar territorial employment centers.  

The goal of the training is to increase the sensitivity of the participants towards LGBT issues through educating them on human rights violations of LGBT people and creation of protection mechanisms, as well as the importance of prevention of torture and discrimination against them.

While delivering the opening speech, Sergey Gabrielyan, President of “New Generation” Humanitarian NGO, greeted the participants and highlighted the importance of successful cooperation with the state employment agency and territorial employment centers. Afterwards he presented the goal and specific objectives of the project.

During the three days remarkable issues concerning human rights, prevention of discrimination and hate speech, restrictions on freedom of speech will be discussed and comprehensive explanations will given by the experts, Robert Revazyan, Avetiq Ishkhanyan and Ara Ghazaryan.

On the firts day of the training Robert Revazyan and Avetiq Ishkhanyan talked about main concepts, definition, origin and generations of human rights; in-state and international documents and protection mechanisms of human rights.

During the next two days Ara Ghazaryan particularly talked about discrimination, its definition, main manifestations in Armenia, Europe and America, types and protected grounds, as well as the spheares where discrimination and hate speech towards LGBTI people are mostly demonstrated, the distinctions among hate speech and freedom of speech, as well as defamation and insult was discussed.

The training was conducted in the scope of the ″Promoting the Human Rights of LGBTI People in the Armenian Society″ project which is implemented with the financial support of the US Agency for International Development / USAID/.
