On March 23-25, 2017 ″New Generation″ Humanitarian NGO organized a three-day training in Artashat (Ararat region) on ″Human rights, tolerance and prevention of discrimination″. Topics covered during the training were human rights, discrimination, freedom of speech vs. hate speech.
Hayk Hayrapetyan, lawyer at ″New Generation″ Humanitarian NGO, conducted the training, which was attended by representatives from Ararat Regional Administration, Artashat regional employment agency, local non-governmental organizations and teachers of primary and secondary schools.
On March 23 in the scope of ″Human rights″ topic the trainer talked about general concepts, history and definitions of human rights, in-state and international legislation, European Union, European Council, Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the European Court of Human Rights and the European Convention on Human Rights.
During the last two days the participants were introduced to ″Prevention of discrimination″ and ″Freedom of speech vs. hate speech″ topics and got basic knowledge on definition, types and protected grounds discrimination, in-state and international legal documents related to prevention of discrimination, positive obligations of the state in human rights protection process, basis of lawful restrictions of human rights, definitions of defamation, slander and hate speech.
The training was organized in the scope of ″Human rights for diversity and equality″ project which is implemented with the financial support of the Norwegian Helsinki Committee.
