And so, LIFE2 offsite information platform came to its close. This time “New Generation” Humanitarian NGO held the meeting within the framework of “Right to Health” project for newly-starting MSM and Trans* activists in a novel, unprecedented format.
The information platform was aimed at raising awareness on the right to health among the representatives of MSM and Trans* communities, enhance their legal consciousness, acquaint them with the in-state and international human rights protection mechanisms as well as promote the involvement of the community in the bodies of National Response to HIV.
On the first day of LIFE2 information platform, the participants were introduced to the topic of “Human Rights” and “Right to Health”.
In the frames of the first topic, the trainer of the meeting, NGNGO lawyer Anahit Mkrtchyan spoke about the Concept of Human Rights, Generations of Human Rights and International Human Rights Instruments. European Convention on Human Rights, European Court of Human Rights and Human Rights Protection Mechanisms were also discussed.
The participants were informed about the state-guaranteed free medical care and service, as well as the low level of legal consciousness and medical knowledge of RA healthcare workers, their discriminatory attitude and prevention mechanisms of such manifestations of discrimination were discussed within the framework of Right to Health topic.
The entire meeting was full of interesting video-screenings and practical activities.
The first day of the meeting also included a plenary session led by US department of State, Foreign Service Officer Somer Bessire-Briers.
The second day of LIFE2 started with the presentation of the topic on HIV and AIDS Prevention and the Importance of Testing by NGNGO president and “Right to Health” project manager Sergey Gabrielyan. Within the framework of this topic the participants were introduced to the HIV and AIDS related terms, the difference between HIV and AIDS, ways of transmission and vital fluids, correct usage of condoms, the importance of HIV testing.
Next, lawyer Anahit Mkrtchyan spoke about the provisions of RA law on “The Prevention of Disease Caused by HIV” and the rights of people living with HIV.
The second day of the meeting also included a plenary session led by representative of RA Ministry of Healthcare, Naira Sergeeva, representative of “Mission East”-Armenia Relief and Development Organization, Sona Orbelyan and CCM representative Armen Aghajanov. The participants addressed their questions and matters of concern to the spokespersons of the session and received exhaustive answers to them.
